Josh Adkins was named Head Football Coach at Franklin High School in early 2024, taking over a program in need of revitalization. Known for his energy, relationship-building, and player-first approach, Adkins brings over a decade of coaching experience across high school and collegiate levels.
Prior to joining Franklin, Adkins served as defensive and special teams coordinator at Gallatin High School for five seasons, helping guide the team to a 7-4 record and a playoff berth against eventual Class 6A runner-up Oakland. He also coached wrestling at Gallatin, showcasing his commitment to multi-sport development.
Adkins began his coaching career as co-offensive coordinator at Stratford High School, working under Metro Nashville coaching legend Maurice Fitzgerald. He later joined Fitzgerald’s son, Buck, at National Playmakers Academy, a training organization for elite high school athletes. His collegiate coaching experience includes stints as a graduate assistant at McNeese State and MTSU, and a full-time assistant at Florida Tech before the program was discontinued during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Adkins took on the Franklin job with a clear mission: to rebuild a program that had gone 3-27 over the previous three seasons, including a 21-game losing streak. His wife Jennifer is a Franklin native, making the opportunity a personal and professional fit. Adkins emphasizes effort, energy, and attention to detail, and is focused on increasing participation and building a culture that extends beyond football.
In his first season, Adkins led the Admirals to a 6-6 record and a TSSAA playoff appearance, signaling a strong turnaround and renewed optimism for the program.
