Junior quarterback Matthew Horner threw for 153 yards and two touchdowns and Eli Garlington picked up his second 100-yard game in a row as the Independence High School football team topped Franklin 21-7 in a Region 6-6A contest Friday night.
Long known for fast, electrifying scores, the Eagles took the opening kickoff on a meandering 16-play, 80-yard drive, eating up nearly eight minutes before Garlington plunged over from 1-yard out to give the Eagles an early lead.
Independence appeared to be in complete control of the game in the first 16 minutes, as Horner found Hendrix Harvey for a nine-yard score less than four minutes after Garlington's score. The same pair hooked up again less than four minutes later for a 30-yard touchdown to put
the home team up 21-0.
